Confluence man, 18, held on 58 counts in state police case

A Confluence man is being held in the Somerset County Prison on 58 criminal counts following a Pennsylvania State Police investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.
Laiden Scott Clevenger, 18, was arraigned Thursday, August 27, before Magisterial District Judge Patrick Svonavec of Rockwood. Bail was set at $25,000 monetary. He was committed to the county prison the same day, unable to post it.
The complaint was filed by the Somerset barracks of the state police. Trooper Daniel M. Kephart was the arresting officer. The Somerset County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting.
The charges are grouped in repeating sets of eight. They include eight first-degree felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years of age and eight of unlawful contact with a minor; eight second-degree felony counts each of aggravated indecent assault of a complainant less than 16, statutory sexual assault, and sexual assault; eight third-degree felony counts of sexual abuse of children involving child sexual abuse material; eight second-degree misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of a person less than 16; and single felony counts of corruption of minors and criminal use of a communication facility.
All 58 counts list an offense date of March 12, 2025. The case is docketed as MJ-16305-CR-0000075-2026.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, before Judge Svonavec.
Criminal charges are allegations. Clevenger is presumed innocent unless and until he is convicted in a court of law. As of Monday the docket listed no attorney for him and showed no application for a public defender.
