Here is something you might not know about the Turkeyfoot Valley Historical Society. If you are trying to trace your family, it may already have a head start waiting for you.
The society keeps genealogical records on a long list of local families. For some, that means a page or two. For others, it runs to ten or twenty pages, and in many cases, entire notebooks and folders.
The collection goes well beyond family trees. The society has roughly 2,500 obituaries on file, some reaching back into the 1800s. It has notebooks of newspaper articles about the Turkeyfoot area dating from the early 1900s. And it keeps records of local cemeteries, including the names of those buried in them.
The society would also welcome your help. If you have worked on your own family tree, it would like a copy for its files. It fields a steady stream of research requests, and plenty of people come to the building to dig through the records themselves.
