The Mt. Davis Challenge Belongs to the Whole Town
A grateful look back at the Mt. Davis Challenge bike race, with thanks to Jim Sota, the Confluence Tourism Association, and the volunteers who made it happen.
The Mt. Davis Challenge is over for another year, and it is worth taking a moment to say thank you.
On Sunday, July 26, riders once again took on the climb over Mount Davis, the highest point in Pennsylvania, on the 40 and 56 mile routes that start and finish right here in Confluence. A race like that does not happen on its own.
Jim Sota led the effort, and he had plenty of help. The Confluence Tourism Association threw its full support behind the race, and members of the community turned out to do the hundred small jobs that add up to a good event: staffing intersections, pointing riders the right way, handing out water, and keeping everyone safe on a long, hot course.
To Jim, to the CTA, and to every volunteer who gave up a Sunday to make it happen, thank you. Events like this are what make a small town feel big. They put Confluence on the map for riders from all over, and they only come together because people here are willing to show up and pitch in.
