Youghtoberfest Takes Over Ohiopyle on September 26

News & Views

Ohiopyle throws a party on Saturday, September 26, and the whole thing is a fundraiser. Youghtoberfest runs 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the heart of town at 15 Sherman Street, with live music, food and craft vendors.

The money goes three ways: Ohiopyle Borough, the fire department and the community center. In a town of fewer than 60 year-round residents that hosts a few million visitors a season, that is not a small thing. The fire department that answers a call on Route 381 in February is funded in part by people drinking beer in a park in September.

Getting there

Ohiopyle sits at Mile 72 of the Great Allegheny Passage, about 11 miles down the trail from Confluence. Late September is peak season for a reason, the Yough gorge starts turning right about then, so riding in is the obvious move if the weather cooperates.

Fair warning: September 26 is a crowded Saturday on the mountain. The 3M Challenge runs the same day out of Cumberland, the Addison Festival is going in the park, and the National Public Lands Day shoreline cleanup is happening at Yough Lake. Pick your adventure, or string a couple together.
