Check your fridge and freezer. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has recalled roughly 167,639 pounds of raw pork, beef and goat products after finding they were produced without federal inspection and carried a false USDA mark.

The recall traces to Star Meat Delivery Inc. of Lucama, North Carolina. FSIS says the products bear a false establishment number, “EST. 1363,” and were shipped to A&D Foods, a distributor in Georgia, for further distribution to retail stores and restaurants nationwide. The items were produced on various dates before September 22.

Named so far are A&D Foods Pork Boston Butt Sliced 4MM, A&D Foods Beef Short Ribs SLD 3/8″ Premium C. Cut, and A&D Foods Beef Feet Cut, all vacuum-sealed and packed in cardboard boxes. FSIS says the list could grow as the investigation continues, and warns that individual consumer packages may not carry the same labeling, since retailers often apply their own price and safe-handling stickers on top.

The problem turned up during routine FSIS surveillance, not a reported illness. As of this week, no illnesses had been confirmed. FSIS still warns that meat produced outside federal inspection can carry undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants.

If you find a package bearing “EST. 1363” or the A&D Foods name in your freezer, do not eat it. Throw it away or take it back to where you bought it.

This is the kind of recall that is easy to miss until it is sitting in your own freezer. Worth a two minute look before dinner.  Or just buy from someone local.,
