The Big Savage Tunnel is coming back to life. Somerset County Parks, Recreation and Trails has announced the tunnel is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, March 25, with crews beginning the process around 10:30 a.m.
The tunnel’s custom doors have kept it sealed since November, protecting the interior lining from the freeze-thaw cycles, high winds, and cold temperatures that come with winter at that elevation. The doors did their job. Now it’s time to ride.
GAP trail users have been rerouting or waiting since late fall. That wait is just about over. Get your routes planned and your tires pumped.
