Confluence Is Throwing a Party for America’s 250th — And You’re Invited
America turns 250 this year, and Confluence is rising to the occasion. On Saturday, July 25, the town square hosts an all-day celebration from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. — Community Market, hot dog eating contest, apple pie baking contest, food trucks, live bands, kids activities, and more.
Two hundred and fifty years. Not a bad run so far.
America’s semiquincentennial — that’s the official term, and you’re welcome to use it at parties — falls this year, and Confluence is not letting it pass quietly. On Saturday, July 25, the town square hosts an all-day birthday celebration from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. that is, frankly, everything a summer party in this valley should be.
The day starts with the Community Market — because of course it does — and builds from there. On the schedule: a hot dog eating contest (competitive eating has a long and proud American tradition), an apple pie baking contest (the most patriotic baked good, full stop), food trucks, live bands, and kids activities throughout the day. More details are still coming, and if the past is any guide, this thing will grow.
Thirteen colonies became fifty states, and somewhere in that long arc of history, a little town at the confluence of three rivers in southwestern Pennsylvania found its place in it. We’ve got Revolutionary War veterans on the monuments in the Town Park. We’ve got a coffee shop named for one of them. We’ve got a community that shows up for each other and for the occasions worth marking.
July 25 is one of those occasions. Clear your calendar, dig out your red, white, and blue, and plan to spend the day on the square. Two hundred and fifty years of America deserves a good party — and Confluence is ready to throw one.
