The Confluence USA 250 Committee is planning to mark the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in July in grand style.

A hot dog eating contest, apple pie baking contest, a bounce house in the park for kids and a spectacular fireworks display that promises to light up the Turkeyfoot Valley are among the events planned for July 25 in the borough. Food vendors, crafters and a full day of live music and other activities for kids are also planned.

The organizing committee is actively soliciting contributions for the fireworks. Checks can be made payable to the USA 250 Committee c/o Somerset Trust Company, 612 Logan Place, Confluence, PA 15424. Addison-based Little Big Shots will launch the fireworks extravaganza  from the West side of town, which will light up the night sky over the Yough River.

Concession and craft vendors interested in participating in the festivities, which offers opportunities for businesses to be recognized at the event, should contact Jenn Gross at 814.289.1144 or Michelle Byrd, 724.323.2019 or bugsbyrd@yahoo.com

Individual contributions to support the historic celebrations are also welcome, which will help make the event memorable. Every dollar goes directly toward making July 25th a day that people will talk about for years.
