Pittsburgh Glass Artist Isaac Beachy Brings Stained Glass Workshops to Confluence This Weekend
Pittsburgh stained glass artist Isaac Beachy teaches two suncatcher workshops at the Confluence Creative Arts Center, October 24 and 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fee is $35.
Isaac Beachy is bringing his stained glass back to the Confluence Creative Arts Center this weekend, with two workshops on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, each from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 533 Williams Street. Pick one day. The fee is $35, and registration is through confluencecreativearts.org.
Four hours is enough to learn the tools and techniques for cutting and joining glass, and everyone goes home with a finished suncatcher. Students choose from three designs and a wide range of glass. The two days carry different themes, so check the Arts Center’s website before you choose. The details are also on the News & Views events calendar.
Beachy is a Pittsburgh stained glass artist who has been working in glass since 2003. He comes from Harrisonburg, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley, and spent about a decade working in Pittsburgh stained glass studios and training under some of the city’s best-known teachers before opening his own shop, Isaac’s Glass, in 2020. He makes custom pieces for homes and businesses and repairs and restores older work. He is a member of the Pittsburgh Glass Center, the American Glass Guild and the Stained Glass Association of America.
His commissions cover a lot of ground. He has made transom windows featuring a client’s favorite video game characters, a window meant to offer hope at a crisis center, and, by his own account, a stained glass hot dog for a restaurant. He has said he takes his inspiration from his clients, from the natural world and from historic styles like Art Nouveau.
Beginners should not be shy about signing up. Beachy has taught stained glass to students from age 5 to 80, and he led a workshop weekend at the Arts Center in June, so he knows the room.
Take the suncatcher home and hang it in a south window. November gets a little easier to look at.
