Mark the calendar now, because this one is worth planning around. Mountain Craft Days, one of the biggest heritage festivals in our region, returns to the grounds of the Somerset Historical Center on Sept. 11, 12, and 13, running 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

If you have never been, picture this: more than 125 costumed artisans spread across a wooded historic site, demonstrating the old crafts the way they were actually done. Blacksmithing, coopering, open-hearth cooking, spinning and weaving, tinsmithing, and more, all happening right in front of you. Add live music, period food, and the kind of hands-on history you cannot get from a book, and you have a weekend that pulls families back year after year.

Why flag it in August for a September festival? Because the good stuff up here fills the calendar fast, and this is a natural fit for our maple-and-mountain readers. It is a short, scenic drive from Confluence and the GAP towns, it is family-friendly, and it is a genuine celebration of the pioneer roots this whole region shares. We will run a closer-to-date reminder as September gets near.

Mountain Craft Days takes place at the Somerset Historical Center, 10649 Somerset Pike, just north of Somerset. Watch the Center’s website for ticket details and the full schedule of demonstrations.
