Songs for America Comes to the Arts Center Friday
Soprano Dr. Jukianne Laird and pianist R.J. Nestor honor America250 with Songs for America at the Confluence Creative Arts Center, Friday, September 25, at 7 p.m.
The Confluence Creative Arts Center closes out its America250 season with something a little different this Friday: an evening of song.
Songs for America brings soprano Dr. Jukianne Laird together with pianist R.J. Nestor on Friday, September 25, at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.
The program is not the usual patriotic songbook. Alongside R.J. Nestor’s own Songs for America, the evening includes works by Native American composer Louis Ballard, plus traditional Appalachian folk songs and spirituals, music that has as much claim to the American story as anything you will hear on the Fourth of July.
It is a fitting way to send off a year of honoring the country’s 250th, right here in the same hall that hosted the theater campers and the eco-art kids all summer long. Come out Friday and hear what America sounds like when it sings in more than one voice.
