$100 Cash Prize, Winner Announced May 18

It is morel season in the Turkeyfoot Valley, and Bob Metzger over at Trailhead Brewing is making the most of it.

Trailhead has been running a Morel Mushroom Contest since April 5, and there is still time to get in on it. If you think you’ve found the best morel in the valley, bring it in. The contest runs through May 17, and the winner will be announced on May 18. First prize: $100 cash.

For those who don’t know, morels are among the most prized wild mushrooms in western Pennsylvania — honeycomb-capped, earthy, and notoriously hard to find unless you know exactly where to look. The woods around Confluence have no shortage of foragers this time of year, and apparently a few of them have already made their way to the bar to show off their finds.

It’s exactly the kind of thing you’d expect from Bob — a little friendly competition, a reason to get outside, and a good excuse to come into the taproom. The man is, without question, a real fun-gi.

Trailhead Brewing is located at 606 Logan Place on the Confluence town square. Stop in, enter your morel, grab a pint, and may the best mushroom win.
